Bagmati River Festival’11, the festival of 21st century

NRCT Mission Statement"To restore, conserve and protect the rivers of Nepal through affirmative action and education, whilst maintaining the cultural integrity of local riverside communities."

Birth of the Bagmati River Festival – The concept

-Brain-child of NRCT Founder/President Mr. Megh Ale

-He has envisioned to see children and fish swimming together, and pilgrims taking a holy bath in the Bagmati, offer the holy water of Bagmati to departed souls without any doubts.

-”To achieve these vision we are making an effort to create a platform for all friends of this holy River, Government and non-government organizations, social organizations, educational institute, private sectors, religious groups, pilgrims, children and all those who concern for Bagmati to work together to revive this river civilization.” Join the movement…

Founder President of NRCT MR. MEGH ALE. August 11, 2001. Krishna Asthami the BRF 01 was born

“Our Sagarmatha- our pride, Our Bagmati- our prestige”

Do we agree on this??? How we feel about it???

Bagmati River Festival 011 the festival of 21st century………….

Since 2001…..

Why BRF, Festival of 21st Century? Our generation’s festival: The need of 21st Century, Festival of

our time, all the religions, people of all ages and gender, poor or rich which promotes Conservation, Culture and Communities through clean up and awareness, plantation, addresses climate change, Global warming, Art, music and water sports.

Platform: BRF provides the platform for the organization to display their work for the conservation of the Bagmati and it’s tributaries as well as people from all walks of life to show their concerns

The festival which brings people close to the river to a have conversation and understand the problem. When we care about it, we love it, then only possible to conserve it!

Five Problems and Solutions1. Sewage Management:

2.Solid Waste & its Management

3.Water Level Rise

4. Law and Order

5. Awareness Campaign

Who must take the ownership and responsibility:

1. Ministry of Tourism2. Ministry of Culture3. Ministry of Forest4. Ministry of Environment 5. Ministry of Physical Planning6. Ministry of Local Development

Who must take the ownershipand responsibility:

1. Kathmandu Metropolitan City2. Lalitpur Sub Metropolitan City3. Bhaktapur Municipality 4. Kirtipur Municipality5. Madhyapur Thimi Municipality

Why Tourism Entrepreneurs must have the ownership of BRF??? Are we responsible???Hotels and Restaurant: We continue to pollute Bagmati by

discharging sewage and dumping wastes at Bagmati – Now it’s time to act to save it.

Trekking- Kathmandu is the Headquarter of all trekking Operators, we transfer the waste from highest dumping site Everest to biggest dumping site Kathmandu. Do we feel responsible for it????

All travel agencies make their earning from Bagmati civilizations such as all heritage sites of Kathmandu Valley where we take our Tourist.

Scenic Float: Upper stretch of Bagmati, Sundarijal-Uttarbahini, can be rafted from July till September. Just imagine about floating down Sundarijal-Chobar, one day.

Close to 25% of Ktm valley population are connected with Tourism Industry and above 70% human resources are idle during this time.

Bagmati Movement: if we all can funnel this energy to spark the Bagmati Movement. I firmly believe the tourism industry can do it, just need that attitude…

Why Students?

To develop awareness attitude and skills among the students and their circles

To encourage and involve the students to participate in environmental activities;

To make the people aware of various methods of environmental improvement;

To understand the damage that man has done to his environment.

Students/youths are the real change makers and work as a bridge for the juniors and seniors

Role of Environmental StudentsAwareness to the people with the logical and

scientific explanationInnovative ideas for the solutions of different

prevailing environmental problemsSerious inputs for the conservational

program as they are highly motivated and dedicated towards conserving the environment

Application of the acquired knowledge in reality

Why Tourism & Corporate Houses must get involve? Turning off season into season… Monsoon is the festive time and it is the season when

nature is in it’s best, it all depends on how we promote and showcase it.

A world class adventurous “Eco-Challenge” 3 to 5 days rout can be developed to attract world class athletes and medias. It’s perfect.

We must not underestimate those beautiful heritage sites along the bank of Bagmati. i.e. Shankhamul, walk from Kalmochan to Teku Dobhan, a walk from Gokarneswar to Uttar Bahini temple etc. It does not smell during mid June to till winter season. Think about all season?

Kathmandu: The first impression and last impression of every tourist who fly in and out of Nepal.

Why corporate houses must involve in this movement ????
