Reading• Open Court Text
– Phonemic Awareness– Phonics– Vocabulary– Fluency – Comprehension
• Themes: Sharing Stories, kindness, Fossils, Look Again, Courage, and Our People and Country.
Math• Scott Foresman• Concepts will focus on
number/computation – addition and subtraction, regrouping, time, money, fractions, story problems, measurement and beginning multiplication concepts.
Science• Themes covered in science are:
Weather, life cycles, camouflage, nutrition, the skeletal system and muscles.
• Other areas covered are the phases of the moon, the sun and stars.
• We will learn about fossils, dinosaurs and land forms.
Social Studies• The location of the seven
continents and map skills.• We will be learning about the
country of China and the continent of Africa.
• We also have an economics strand which we incorporate into the Social Studies curriculum.
Spelling• Test on ThursdayBonus words are given for all
children to try. Bonus words do not count against a child’s score, however if students correctly spell additional words they may earn extra points.
Testing• DIBELS(ORF in wpm and Retell)fall, winter,spring• Math Basic Skills: qtrs. 1-4• MBSP- monitoring math skills

Homework• Homework packet goes home on
Friday. The completed packet should be returned in your child’s folder on Thursday of the following week. Home work concepts should take no more than 20 minutes each night to complete. Please check the work.
• Work not completed at school may go home as homework.
GradingConsiderations in

working independently, pride in the quality of
work. Test scores, daily work and growth.
PBS/Cyclone Cash• Positive Behavior System• Cash for following the ABC’s• Daily class drawings• Weekly Drawing by Mr. Way• The class earns rewards for a
complement. The rewards may be extra recess or other privileges.
