AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
This Course is developed keeping in mind the needs of students who have already mastered
core English competencies but need to hone their language abilities in order to deal creatively
as well as competently with the English language. As the Course title indicates it will
supplement the existing syllabi to create a space within the academy for students to hone their
reading and writing skills in a graded manner to include advanced applied skills like creative
writing, the writing of book and film reviews, and writing for the internet. Computer skills also
will need to be addressed which is now a very important aspect of modern day life skills.
The techniques of instruction will require the course material to be supplemented by a learner
centred classroom, the use of modern technical aids like computers, power points, internet
and movies. Teachers are encouraged to develop supplementary teaching methods.

Aims and Objectives
The Course in Communicative English is a vocational subject introduced by the U.G.C.
It aims at enhancing the employability of the students whether it is traditional areas, or in new
and upcoming set ups, or in opting for their own enterprises. Communication skills and
proficiency in English have become absolutely necessary to grow and develop in the modern
competitive world, whatever be one's other basic academic and technical qualifications. The
Communicative English course aims at training the would-be graduates in various levels of
communication in English speech skills, oral skills, writing skills and other related skills.
Besides being a broad-based subject, it also aims at developing the personality of the young
under graduates and turn them into self-sufficient and self-reliant individuals.
Syllabus for B.A. Part-I Communicative English
(To be implemented from the session 20112-13 i.e. Summer 2013 Examination.)
The Examination of Communicative English shall comprise both theory and practical carrying
70 and 30 marks respectively.

(A) Intensive Drilling in English vowels, consonants, word-accent,

recommended that this training be given with the help of audio/video cassettes CD's
produced by reputed institutions like the B.B.C., Oxford University, EFLU etc.

The above practical exercises must be entered in the record of work and authenticated by the
teacher/co-ordinator from time to time.
