DAY

Forum Rolex, 10 am – 6 pm

October 24th 2013

CONCLUDING REMARKS• Open does not mean «free»: not always clear to authors• Complexity: different models, not always transparent.

More advocacy needed• APC: what are fair APC? How are they calculated?• Open access and rigorous peer-reviewing are fully

compatible• Research evaluation still strongly relies on impact

factor : a barrier for Open access development?• Are there other evaluation systems ? see ERC• Open access not only concerns article distribution:

services, data, networking …

CONCLUDING REMARKS

• Lots of guidelines, but nothing binding: need to establish mandatory policies?

• Open peer-reviewing has (at least) 2 benefits Increased submission qualityMore constructive peer-reviewing process

• Open access initiatives are often launched by researchers, but still not fully understood by the research community

CONCLUDING REMARKS

We are in a transition period: where are we going and how long

will it take… and cost? These questions remain OPEN!
