Description:A postdoctoral research scientist position is available immediately in the fields of cellular and molecular immunology,immunopathogenesis, and host defense against infection with Ehrlichia in the laboratories of Drs. David H. Walker and NahedIsmail, in the Department of Pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) of Galveston. The postdoctoralscientist will be engaged in a project that seeks to elucidate the role of innate and acquired immunity against obligateintracellular Ehrlichia infection in animal model of human monocytotropic ehrlichiosis. In particular, we are interested in therole of immature dendritic cells, NK, NKT, conventional naıve and memory CD4 and CD8 T cells in primary and secondaryimmune responses against Ehrlichia and development of immunopathology in fatal diseases. The project will make use ofgene-targeted mice as well as cells derived from infected mice.

Requirements:The position involves a broad range of immunological, cellular, and molecular techniques, and mouse models of humanerhlichiosis. These include multi-parameter flow cytometry, immunofluorescent microscopy, ELISpot assay, ELISA, multiplexcytokine bead array, quantitative real-time PCR, cloning and genomic expression library, Western immunoblotting andimmunoprecipitation, dendritic cell culture and functional assays, such as antigen uptake and neutralization strategies, T cellproliferation, and adoptive transfer experiments. Candidates with experience in some or all of these techniques shoulddefinitely apply. Excellent communication skills and command of spoken and written English are an absolute must. Thelaboratory is located in a state-of-the-art research facility that houses dedicated BSL-3 facilities and core facilities.

UTHSC at Houston Seeks HIV Researcher for NewResearch Building

The Center for the Study of Emerging and Re-emerging Pathogens andthe Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas HealthScience Center at Houston seeks an exceptional research scientist (as-sistant, associate or full professor level, tenure track) with documentedaccomplishments in the area of HIV investigation (immunology, virologyor vaccine development).
