CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION
WOODBRIDGE/BETHANY
NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
August 9, 2020
Glory to God in the Highest Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you,
we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
Second Reading A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans
Brothers and sisters: I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie;
my conscience joins with the Holy Spirit in bearing me witness that I have great sorrow and constant anguish in my heart.
For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ
for the sake of my own people, my kindred according to the flesh.
They are Israelites; theirs the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law,
the worship, and the promises; theirs the patriarchs, and from them, according to the flesh, is the Christ,
who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.
L. The Word of the Lord R. Thanks be to God
Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salva-tion he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accord-ance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
First Reading A Reading from the First Book of Kings
At the mountain of God, Horeb, Elijah came to a cave where he took shelter.
Then the LORD said to him, “Go outside and stand on the mountain
before the LORD; the LORD will be passing by.”
A strong and heavy wind was rending the mountains
and crushing rocks before the LORD but the LORD was not in the wind.
After the wind there was an earthquake but the LORD was not in the earthquake.
After the earthquake there was fire but the LORD was not in the fire.
After the fire there was a tiny whispering sound. When he heard this,
Elijah hid his face in his cloak and went and stood at the entrance of the cave.
L The Word of the Lord R. Thanks be to God
ANIMA CHRISTI (Prayer after Communion) Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O
good Jesus, hear me. Within Thy wounds hide me. Separated from Thee let me never be. From the ma-lignant enemy, defend me. At the hour of death, call me. And close to Thee bid me. That with Thy saints
I may be Praising Thee, forever and ever. Amen
PRAYER TO ST MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle,
be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God,
cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
