Asthma Gift Fair15 – 16 October 2014

www.asthmagiftfair.com

On behalf of the committee, we would like to welcome you to the 32nd Asthma Gift Fair! Once again, we are delighted to be at the Hurlingham Club and thank them for their continued support and co-operation.

The Asthma Gift Fair was first launched thirty two years ago by a small committee. They were a united group with a solitary goal of helping to support their children and other family members with asthma to share their experiences.

The event has gone from strength to strength over the years and more than £1 mil-lion has been raised for Asthma UK, which has helped to fund world class asthma research and a Helpline staffed by specialist nurses.

Raising awareness of the seriousness of asthma is still one of our main goals as sadly every day three families will lose someone to the condition.

This Fair would not be possible without the help and support of Knight Frank, who have been incredibly generous, not only sponsoring the Fair, but also for providing the wine, shopping bags and balloons. Thank you from us all.

A big thank you to all the stallholders, some of whom have been coming to the Fair for several years, without their loyal support and enthusiasm there would be no Fair. Thanks also to all the generous people who donated prizes for the raffle and the tombola vouchers, to Asthma UK for all their help and hard work and also to HRH the Duchess of Gloucester, our patron, who is a regular supporter of the Fair.

Finally we would like to thank our wonderful committee who work extremely hard to make the Fair a success each year. We also thank the friends of the Asthma Gift Fair, all of whom have served on the main committee, for running their home produce stall.

We do hope you enjoy this year’s Fair and thank you for coming.

We would not be able to organise events like the Asthma Gift Fair without our dedicated Committee members who volunteer their time to support the charity, helping us raise much needed funds towards our life-saving work.

Do you think you could devote a few hours a month to support one of our social events through inviting your contacts, sourcing prizes for fundraising activities or working with companies you are involved with to generate advertising and sponsorship? If the answer is yes, we would love to hear from you!

All of our social events currently take place in London and would require attendance at regular committee meetings.

If you are interested in getting involved please get in touch with Pauliina Lyttinen, Special Events Manager at Asthma UK, by phoning 0207 786 4998 or by emailing plyttinen@asthma.org.uk.

About Asthma UK

Every year, asthma kills the equivalent of a class of school children.

Asthma UK is dedicated to stopping this. We’re both the leading charity funder of asthma research in the UK and the only charity providing support and advice to the £5.4 million people in the UK who have asthma. Our goal is to prevent asthma attacks, especially those that result in death and emergency hospitalisation.

To date, Asthma UK has spent over £50 million on asthma research resulting in new and more effective treatments. Every year we support new research projects to uncover causes of asthma, create better treatments and ultimately find a cure.

The Asthma UK Helpline, staffed by specialist asthma nurses, provides independent, confidential advice and support to over 5,000 people every year. As well as the Helpline we also provide information and award winning resources to help people manage their condition and thus reduce the risk of hospital admissions and deaths.

Shockingly, 86% of people with asthma aren’t receiving the right basic care and many people don’t realise that asthma can and does kill. We campaign and raise awareness in the media for asthma to be taken more seriously and for everyone to receive the care that they deserve. Recently we successfully campaigned for all schools to have a spare emergency inhaler in their first aid kits – a simple change in law that can save many children’s lives.

Asthma is the most common long-term medical condition in children and affects two children in every classroom. Help us support people living with asthma, find a cure and save lives. Without help from people like you we won’t be able to continue our work so please be generous in your support.
