Alphonse Allais avait eu cette réplique célèbre : « Partir, c’est mourir un peu… Mais mourir, c’est partir beaucoup. » Et face aux projecteurs, aux micros insolents et au crépitement des flashs, ce grand départ qu’est la mort est retransmis sans pudeur sur des millions d’écrans. Arnika Müll engage une réflexion profonde sur l’indécence des médias, phénomène si cher à une époque de communication maladive et frénétique. Quoi de plus symbolique pour dessiner notre ère qu’assister à la lente agonie d’un vieux pape ou aux carnages de la guerre ? Le paroxysme de l’hyper-communication est représenté par la troublante dualité d’un impalpable qui subit son destin, sous le regard d’un libre-arbitre en pleine santé qui jouit sans doute de la désolation du spectacle.
L’oiseau est affamé dans la lueur diaphane de l’écran, la nourriture lui est interdite car issue d’un autre monde, le nôtre, celui des possibles. Ainsi l’oiseau dépérit, doucement, tout doucement… et le spectateur, assis dans l’opulence d’un fauteuil de cuir, détenteur d’une nourriture interdite qui pourtant sauverait l’oiseau, se lamente pathétiquement sur ce qu’il voit, cachant tant bien que mal la jouissance secrète qu’il entretient face au spectacle d’un destin qui n’est pas le sien.
Arnika Müll attaque avec finesse et perspicacité l’effrayante spirale de la communication, les excès pitoyables d’un monde moderne, d’un monde de l’absurde.
