Are You Fulfilling Your

Goals as a Freelance

Photographer?

Why become a freelance photographer?

● You set your own hours.

● You don’t need to dress up for work.

● You can take a break anytime, anywhere.

● You decide how much to charge a client.

● You are your own boss and you answer to no

one.

● You make the rules.

For most of photographers, freelance photography doesn’t come easy.

1.Find your niche

There are different types of photography.

Discover which one suits you best.

● Nature Photography

● Wedding Photography

● Portrait Photography

● Advertising Photography

● Fashion Photography

2. Work within your client’s budget

Avoid scaring your clients

off. Ask them about their

budget, then consider the

expenses to make the

shoot possible.

3. Invest in high-quality film equipment.

High-end cameras deliver

great results. If you

produce great results, you

will be able to recover your

investment in no time.

4. Use social media as a marketing tool

Use social networking sites

as a quick and affordable

way to reach your audience.

You will have to market your

own business too.

5. Publish a photo book

Producing photo books

and how-to photography

books are sure fire ways

to get loyal audiences.

6. Create a professional photography website

Your website will be

your portfolio. This is

where your clients will

be looking at when

considering you for the

job, so make every

photo count.

7. Respond to phone calls and e-mails immediately.

If you get a ring or a query

letter from someone,

chances are they have been

looking at your work. Don’t

let this opportunity slip

through your fingers.

8. Always keep a list

Big goals are reached

through a series of small

tasks. Keep a list to avoid

procrastinating or

completely forgetting

about your errands.

9. Stick to a consistent schedule

Working for oneself

doesn’t equate to getting

up at midday. You need to

work as hard as everybody

else to avoid losing

productivity.

10. Keep learning

● Shoot—a lot!

● Do your research.

● Browse through your photos and assess your own work.

● Attend photography workshops and expand your portfolio.

● Identify the flaws in your photos.

● Be better every day.

Thank You.
