PART 4—CONTINUATION OF LETTER FROM BISHOPS OF MALAWI TO GOVERNMENT On regionalism and tribalism the bishops say “While we have made important strides as a country to build our-
selves as a democratic nation, we are worried that certain trends or forces have the potential to divide us.”The
Bishops noted that these elements are slowly taking root in the society. “These manifest themselves in various
forms especially through social, political and economic exclusion and inequalities between regions and tribes.
Federalism was one of such manifestations. We remind all the people of Malawi that the founding fathers and
mothers of this nation invested a lot of efforts and energy to ensure that Malawians see and treat each other
as brothers and sisters.” The Church stated that unity is the cornerstone on which this nation is built. “No tribe
is more valuable or important that the other.” The Church appeals to all citizens to put Malawi first before any
tribal or regional interests. The government has also been asked to develop policies and programs that ensure
that all sections of society are included. Political parties, Civil Society Organizations, Traditional authorities and
the media have also been urged to desist from making statements that instigate or promote hatred among
peace-loving Malawians. We also call upon our renowned economists to honestly respond to the question: Can
an economy and its policies opt for the poor? We recall Pope Francis’ words of encouragement to all Catholics
and people of good will to love their country, offering their best and advancing the common good.

Favorite Gospel Passages and Where to Find them The word Beatitude comes from the Latin word BEATA, or Blessed.
These verses give us hints directly from Jesus on how to live. MATTHEW 5: 1-12. A few things to remember. Poor in spirit (verse 3) means someone who depends on God for
everything Peacemakers (verse 9) means the people who are peaceful
themselves, and also pray for peace. Persecuted means that sometimes people will give you a bad
time if you follow Jesus, but your reward will be great in heaven. Remember that the prophets were treated the same way.

ST. BRENDAN WOMENS BOOK CLUB This month’s book is entitled, “50 Women Every
Christian Should Know” by Michelle DeRusha. This
book shares the stories of 50 women—just like us—
who listened, obeyed and became giants in faith.
Their stories bring to life lives of women who boldly
stepped out in faith and courage and left their mark
on our world for God. Please join us on Monday,
April 25 as we discuss this month’s book at
7:00 pm in the Brendan House Dining Room.
Questions? Call Berni at 425-485-4893 or
Anneliese at 425-486-4225.
LifeTeen: Join us this this Sunday night 4/24 at 7:00 pm as we
continue our exploration of God’s Mercy and Pope Francis’ Jubilee
Year of Mercy. We’ll also have time for games, snacks and a chance to
get to know your fellow Catholic teens. Sunday, May 1st, join us at the
Confirmation ceremony at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish. There
will not be a Life Teen meeting so we can all be free to attend this very
important Mass.
Junior High/Edge: This Wednesday we jump on into our third week
on Superheroes. Come find out all about it! 6:00-7:25 pm in Lower
Brendan House.

Larry Pomada:
I want to thank all the
parishioners for the months of
prayers for me. I was very sick
over this last year. I believe,
because of your prayers and
anointing of the sick, God chose
to heal me from the muscle
issue I had.
