Announcement of 1997 GE-AUR Fellowships

T he Association of University Radiologists and GE Medical Systems have jointly announced the selec-

tion of four radiology investigators to receive 2-year GE-

AUR Radiology Research Academic (GERRAF) Fellow- ships. GERRAF Fellowships are presented annually to

support career development and advanced research projects in the areas of clinical diagnostic imaging out-

comes and related areas of technology assessment.

The new 1997 GE-AUR Fellows and their approved research projects are:

• Elizabeth G. McFarland, MD, Assistant Professor of

Radiology, Washington University School of Medi- cine, "Colonic Polyp Detect ion with Spiral CT Colo-

nography: Validation and Prospective Evaluation of CT, Barium Enema, and Endoscopy."

• Max P. Rosen, PhD, Assistant Professor in Radiology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, "The Efficacy of Diagnostic Thinking Following a Ventilation/Per- fusion Lung Scan: A Threshold Approach."

• Dulcy E. Wolverton, MD, Assistant Professor of Radi-

ology, University of Chicago, "Computer-aided Diag- nosis in Mammography and Its Effect on Radiologist

Performance."

Kyle K. Yu, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor, Univer- sity of California, San Francisco, "Prediction of Pro- gression-Free Survival in Patients with Prostate Can- cer: Comparison of MR Imaging with Spectroscopy,

Sextant Biopsies, and Multivariate Predict ion--A Pro- spective Study."

GERRAF Fellowships provide $50,000 stipends for

each of 2 years to support qualifying research projects. Recipients are selected by an independent review

board f rom among candidates nominated by academic radiologic institutions in the United States and Canada.

Including the latest winners, 12 GE-AUR Fellows are currently pursuing approved GERRAF research proj-

ects. Nine others have already comple ted the 2-year program.

1997 GERRAF Fellowships will be formally pre-

sented during the AUR annual meeting in Dallas, TX, April 9-13. Solicitations for 1998 GERRAF nominations will be announced at that time. Up to five GE-AUR Fel-

lows may be Selected annually.
