AROUND THE BLOCK: Evelyn Smith – Guild President
Hello Quilters, We had a great time at Quilters’ Day Out. Sorry if you missed, but we had a pretty
good group that attended. I enjoyed sewing on the Quilt of Valor blocks. There were enough blocks to
make 4 quilts. Great Job! We turned in quite a few items for the Children’s Hospital. Thank you for
everyone that took time to sew these items. Don’t forget we are making lap quilt for the cancer center
in Shelbyville.
Our sewing group is growing on Fridays. We are having new people to some and sew that are not in
our group.
I’m looking forward to the trip coming up April 28th to Flemming County to see the barn quilts and
covered bridges. I hope you can come. I hope you can come. If you have not signed up, it’s not too

April 17th.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH:
Do you have a great recipe that you use for ‘get-togethers’ like our All-nighters or meetings that
includes snacks? Send them or give them to me and I will include one each month. If you have a
special recipe you would like for me to feature or if you have a request, let me know.
Kentucky Farmhouse Scramble
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon canola or vegetable oil
8 ounces diced boneless country ham
½ cup diced roasted red peppers, well drained
12 large eggs
4 ounces grated Swiss cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Sliced green onions for garnish
1. Heat a non-stick 12-inch sauté pan over medium heat. Add butter and oil and swirl around the pan
until melted. Add the country ham and sauté until it begins to brown, about 3 minutes.
2. Turn heat to medium-low. Stir in roasted red peppers and beaten eggs. After the eggs begin to set,
stir slowly from edge to edge with a heat-resistant rubber spatula until large curds form. This will
take 5 minutes or so.
3. When eggs are still moist and slightly runny, fold in the shredded cheese and season with salt and
pepper.
4. Remove the pan from the heat and garnish.
Serves 4 – 6.

For May, I choose a block that can represent Mother’s Day and/or Memorial Day. You do not have to
use the same flower color as shown. Use your own choice. If you plan to use this block with the others
make sure the block you appliqué your flower on is the same size block. I recommend using a 13” square
and cutting it to size after you have appliquéd you flower. Remember, it’s your block. Be creative if you
want. Templates are on the last page. ~ Clara
