Amankila (peaceful hill) is located near thevillage of Manggis in East Bali’s KarangasemRegency. From its cliff-edge setting highabove the Lombok Strait, Amankila enjoyssea and coastal views of this historic region.

Amankila’s three-tier pool is situated at the resort’s heart and offersspectacular panoramic views of Amuk Bay and Nusa Penida. Set intothe cliff-edge, the deep green-tiled pools flow one into the other,stepping down like terraced rice fields.

The Library (left & above ) is located directlybehind the main swimming pool and offers avariety of books, newspapers and magazines.Indonesian tea is available every afternoonfrom the Library steps.

The Terrace serves Asian andWestern cuisine and is openfor breakfast and lunch.

The Restaurant (left ) is available for eveningdining with cocktails or aperitifs enjoyed in the open-air bar.

Amankila’s 34 free-standingsuites feature alang alang roofthatching and are fashioned asBalinese beach houses, nestledinto the hillside vegetationfacing the sea.

Elevated walkways link the suites to the restaurants,swimming pools and other public areas.

The spacious outdoor terrace of each suite is furnished with a daybed fitted with bolsters andpillows. There’s also a coconut-shell table and rattan chairs for private dining.

Each suite features a large bedroom with wide window views, a canopied king-size bed, a writingdesk and a music system. The expansive, terrazzo-tiled bathroom comes with a shower and deepsoaking tub, a window-side divan, double terrazzo vanities and twin coconut-wood dressing areas.

Private swimmingpools are featured in nine of the suites,including the two-bedroom AmankilaSuite (right ), theIndrakila Suite, theKilasari Suite and four interconnectingPool Suites.

Steps wind down the hill to Amankila’s Beach Club, tucked away in a coconut grove. Facilities include a 41-metre lap pool overlooked by the restaurant where lunch and snackscan be enjoyed. A path leads to the resort’s private beach which offers eight bales, windsurfers, kayaks, boogie boards, Hobie Cats and two outriggers.

Soothe mind and body in the Massage Pavilion or outdoors in the tranquil Coconut Grove. Yoga sessions can also be arranged.

From cycling and nature treks to water sports, activitiesabound. Dive, snorkel andcruise trips are also available.

Amankila is situated in the heart of one of

The resort’s design reflects elements of Ujung,

the water palace built by the last Raja of

Karangasem and located only a short drive

motif, a series of inwardly curving shapes,

echoes the ornate entrance doors to

Maskerdam, at the Karangasem Royal Palace.
