Some interested people apply to the Department of Conservation to set up a Marine reserves .

There is a different Department of Conservation for each province. They are always really busy with what they are doing and are kept on the go all day long 24/7.

Marine Reserves are worth while. There are so many things that you can do at Marine Reserves.

You can snorkel, sunbathe, explore the rocky shores, take a trip on the glass bottom boat. You can make sandcastles and go scuba diving down deep.

The population has increased lots since Marine Reserves first opened. Fisherman at first did not like the idea at all but that has changed.

They now see it as a very good idea as they have seen how much Marine Reserves have protected endangered sea creatures.

These are Marine Reserves all around New Zealand. There are HEAPS of them!
