MICHIGAN AG FACTS

Michigan is the second most agriculturallydiverse state in the country. Michigan’s uniquemicroclimates allow farmers to produce over 125different food and fiber products. Agriculture, the2nd largest industry, contributes $37 billion

annually to the state’s economy.Michigan ranks #1 in production of black

beans, cranberry beans, blueberries, tart cher-ries, processing cucumbers and Niagara grapes.

Michigan also ranks #1 in the production of flowering and bedding plants, seed and cutting geraniums and hanging baskets.

INDIANA AG FACTSIndiana is home to almost 60,000 farms,

accounting for 15 million acres in farmland.Nearly $5 billion in commodities are sold annual-ly.

Indiana farmers care for 900,000 head of cat-tle and calves, 3.5 million head of hogs and pigs,50,000 head of sheep, and 167,000 head of milking cows. Nearly 20,000 pounds of milk is

produced per cow, making the total for the statealmost 3 billion pounds annually.

Other Indiana commodities include grain,oilseed, dry beans, tobacco, cotton and cotton-seed, fruits, nuts, berries, polutry and eggs, andaquaculture.

OHIO AG FACTS

In Ohio, agriculture is a huge industry. One inseven Ohioans are employed in the food andagriculture industry, which contributes over $98billion to the state’s economic growth.
