Shade matching

AESTHETICS-Definition:It is the art and science of reality imitation which Refers to

natural harmony between teeth, supporting bones of jaw & soft tissues of face.

AESTHETIC CRITERIA

Alignment

Proportions

Shape & Form

Lips

Face

Color

aesthetic formula

A-Facial component

B-Periodontal component

C-Dental component

A-FACIAL COMPONENT

proportions• Facial composition is ideally divided into 3 equal parts with ideally sized & located.

• Symmetry and balance•Static (mirror image)•Dynamic (very similar but not identical)•Balance :tooth on either side are balanced out

MUSCULATURE (LIPS)• Lower lip design

There is a correlation between lower lip thickness & width of upper teeth length & inclination

• Upper lip design (smile line)

Determines the exposed area of anterior teeth. In addition it determines gingival exposure

Types:

• High

• Medium

• low

B-PERIODONTAL COMPONENT

Periodontal health should be optimally established :

• Before restorative treatment

• Maintained during the procedure

• In the final restoration

GINGIVAL TISSUE

Factors affecting gingival health:• Inflammation

• Systemic disease

• Iatrogenic factors

pale,thin,kife edge , scalloped , pyramidal
cــــــjgggj الجلعود
(faulty margin, rough restoration, over or undersized rest.)

C-DENTAL COMPONENTIn order to achieve optimal dental esthetics a basic

knowledge of natural tooth anatomy is fundamental

• Shape and form• Semmetry• Position• Srface texture• Color• Translucency

• A smile is considered to be esthetically pleasing if each tooth in that smile (starting from the midline) is approximately 60% of the size of the tooth immediately mesial to it

?

Golden Rule

SHADE MATCHING

• It is the process of color replication of natural tooth

in a restoration

• 1- Shade is taken prior to tooth preparation.

• 2- Taken at the beginning of the visit and quickly .

• 3- Taken under different light sources .

• 4- Teeth should be clean and wet .

• 5- ꞌShade tabꞌ should be placed next to the tooth

to insure same background .

GENERAL GUIDELINES:
