NORWAY

NORWAY• Norway is a

country in the far north of Europe.

• Some people think that Norway is a town in Sweden... but it`s not!

OIL AND GAS• Norway has large oil and gas

resources in the North Sea.• These resources have made

Norway one of the richest countries in the world.

REGIONS IN NORWAY

THE FJORDS ON THE WEST COAST

THE NORTHERN LIGHTS are often seen in Nortern

Norway

SOUTHERN NORWAY• The Ice Age carved out lots of smooth rocks and islandsin southern Norway

EASTERN NORWAY• Eastern

Norway : forestry, winter-sport tourism and agriculture are important industries here.

THE ROYAL PALACE

• The Royal Palace, the King's official residence in Oslo

HOLMENKOLLEN:SKI JUMP IN OSLO with a

magnificent view over the Oslo fjord

THE OPERA IN OSLO

• The Opera opened on the 12th of April 2008 and houses both the National ballet and opera

• The building dips into the fjord and is praised for its architecture

DISTRICT OF RÆLINGEN

• Rælingen is a rural district with pop. 16,420

• The capital of Norway, Oslo, is just a short 20 min drive away

• Our nearest city, Lillestrøm, is just five min away

SKIING IN RÆLINGEN• We have lots of

places for both cross-country and downhill skiing in our district

• There´s even a small ski-jump nearby

ØSTMARKA• Østmarka is a

forest area located east of Oslo.

• There are two nature reserves in Østmarka

• Our school has this area as its neighbour

NORTHERN ØYEREN• Glomma runs into

Øyeren.• Northern Øyeren

is a large nature reserve in Rælingen and surrounding areas

• The nature reserve is the largest inland delta in Norway

ÅMOTDAMMEN• Åmotdammen is a

lake in the Østmarka, just a few minutes from school.

• This is a popular area for fishing and outdoor activities, and there are many places for swimming around the lake.

• We have many school activities around the lake

SANDBEKKEN UNGDOMSSKOLE

• Sandbekken is one of the two middle schools in Rælingen. There are 310 pupils aged 13-16 and a staff of 35.

• Our school was built in 1975 and renovated in 2003, the school has a 25m pool and large sports hall, a sand volleyball pitch and a skating ramp

There is a 10 minute break to change classroom between lessons
