FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
When we experience considerably hot weather, we change the timetable to minimise the length of time students are outside during the hottest part of the day. When we run a hot weather timetable, we swap the break times over, so that we have an hour-long recess break and a half hour lunch break. When temperatures reach 37 degrees, we organise for students to stay indoors. We are running a hot weather timetable today and tomorrow.
This Friday, is our first Transition Program session when all students spend time experiencing what it is like to be in the next year level. We are excited about welcoming 80 pre-schoolers to Swan Hill Primary School, to experience time in our Prep classrooms. We are proud of the transition processes we have developed over time and aim to make the experience supportive for all ages.
Our teachers have begun the process of placing students in classes for next year. The process of putting class lists together is lengthy and we ensure we take a range of considerations into account. We always aim to place students in a class with at least one of their requested friends. Students will be placed in their 2020 class, and meet their new teacher, on our last transition session on Friday 13 December.

Frozen snacks—As the weather warms up we often look for frozen treats such as ice cream. A great healthy alternative is to use frozen fruit! Be creative and try a range of different fruits.
Simply blend your chosen fruit until smooth and pour into a mould and freeze. You can even add your own ice cream sticks to make them easier to eat. If you don’t own any moulds you can make small bite size frozen treats using a regular ice cube tray. Alternatively, you can freeze the fruit, and blend it to make a ready to eat, fruity ‘soft serve’.
Child Safe Standards @ SHPS #8
CHILD SAFE STANDARD 6: STRATEGIES TO IDENTIFY AND REDUCE OR REMOVE RISKS OF CHILD ABUSE
Risks always exist for children and there may be some risks that are beyond an organisation’s control. But you must do what is in your power to reduce the risk of children being harmed. Creating a Child Safe organisation begins with a clear understanding of the potential risks to children in an organisation’s setting – what could go wrong and what you can do to reduce or remove these risks.
To reduce the likelihood of harm, Child Safe organisations must have a Risk Assessment Register. They must also think about and define the organisation’s risks. This includes: • thinking about the organisation, its activities and the services it provides to children. • planning how to make activities as safe as possible.
being proactive to reduce the likelihood of risks.
SHPS CHILD SAFE RISK ASSESSMENT REGISTER:
Sign-in & Sign-out: One part of the register is our procedure for VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL. All visitors, including parent helpers are required to sign in and out. They should also collect a lanyard to wear so that they can be easily identified. We have a new system for signing in and out as of last week. The ‘Passtab’ iPad can be found on the front counter at the Office. Rhian, Lee, Jenny and Marilyn will happily show you how to sign in using the new system which will take a few minutes to complete. Please make sure you sign in, wear your lanyard and sign out when finished.
