Monet painted landscapes outdoors.

The forms in his pictures appear hazy.His brushstrokes are quick and pasty.

He used vibrant and clear tones torepresent the light.

Nature provides us with an infinite number of textures: Smooth, bumpy, rough, soft… We perceive themby touch and by seeing.

Claude Monet mixes brushstrokes of different colours in his landscapes to represent textures.

Colour in a similar style to Monet.

Learning to draw... landscapes

Think about these things when you draw landscapes:

Trees that are far away have to be drawnsmaller than trees that are close by.

1. Draw the trees close by in more detail. Whenyou colour them, make them more intense.

Finish the drawing of the wooded area.

Experiment with... tempera paints

You can get a lot of textures from colour tempera paints and a little imagination. Try for yourself!

Pour water into jars.1. Add drops of soap.2. Mix with tempera paint.3.

Sprinkle on the sheet and blow hard.4. Mix colours, blow in different directions…5.
