COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS As we surely are all aware, our Van Buren County roads are in terrible shape! The maintenance and repair of Van Buren County roads (CR-215, CR-388, CR-384, CR-380 and CR-681) is the sole responsibility of the Van Buren County Road Com-mission. Van Buren County annually collects revenue sharing and gas tax money from the State of Michigan and 1.0 mil from Columbia Township property taxpay-ers to defray the cost of such maintenance and repair of these County roads. Columbia Township roads are the joint responsibility of the County and Town-ship. Columbia Township annually collects 2.8 mils ($255,000) for Township road maintenance and improvements performed by and through contractors by the Van Buren County Road Commission. The Columbia Township road fund balance is $1,083,268,92! The Township Board recently authorized spending $430,000 from the Township road fund to pay for 1/3 of the cost of repaving CR-388 from the Grand Junction railroad tracks to Bloomingdale. Bloomingdale and the County will pay the other 2/3 of the cost. Such use of Columbia Township road funds to repair County road CR-388 is a misuse of taxpayer hard-earned dollars - the Township road fund dollars were collected and have always been used to maintain and repair Township roads NOT County roads such as CR-388! Why isn’t this burgeoning Township road fund being used to maintain and repair Township roads? Why don’t the resi-dents of the township get to determine how Township road funds are spent? Columbia Township Board members (Supervisor Linda Norton, Clerk Christy Case, Treasurer Rhonda Collins) have already lined their pockets and the pockets of the Deputy Clerk and Deputy Treasurer by approving their own excessive wage increases! Now they are taking your hard-earned tax dollars earmarked for Town-ship roads and spending them to repair a County road. As we have been complying with Governor Whitmer’s ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ ex-ecutive order, Township residents have had limited participation in Board meetings through Internet online or telephone conference calls. The Board has taken this limited public participation in Board meetings to spend our hard-earned tax dollars without our ability to fully voice our opposition to such expenditures. They are acting like dictators! Board members can no longer be trusted!

There are parades and then there are PARADES!I have looked at the parades on TV and thought how nice.
On May 4, 2020, my friends surprised me with a parade for my 90th birthday. Before this, I didn’t realize the emotional uplift that this could
bring, it changed a day into THE DAY that will be remembered for a long time to come. I hope all the friends that were part of the parade, gifts, cards, and yahoo know how much I appreciate the thought and
love that went into this, and the love that came out of the parade. I looked at the parade that day and again in my mind in the dark after I went to bed. All I can say for all of this is THANK YOU from the depth
of my heart and may God bless and keep you in His heart.

Funerals as Unique as Your Life Afuneral, or memorial service does not have
to follow traditional rules. A unique, and custom service can celebrate the choices they made, the relationship you shared, and honors the memory of your loved one. Here’s one unique idea:
• A patriotic tribute. Honoring a veteran can include a 21 rifle salute, a flag presentation ceremony, a graveside ceremony, and even the playing of taps. No matter what you choose to include, such a service always shows your gratitude for their sacrifice and dedication.

Congratulations to the 7th Grade, 8th Grade, HS Honors, and HS Concert Bands on their fantastic performances at their Pre-Festival Concert. It was an excellent run-through preparation for District Festival performances on March 5.
A big thank you to all the parents, family members, community members and administration for coming out to the concert. We really appreciate it.
MIDDLE SCHOOLCongratulations
Shortened Year = Canceled EventsThe early ending to the 2019/2020 school year, due to the Pandemic, meant that many PPPS performance events had to be canceled - Elementary Spring Music Concerts, MS & High School spring band & choir concerts, the MS Musical and the High School One Act’s Festival. Despite the cancellations, included here are the Bugsy Malone Jr. and the One Act’s casts as well as the Student Director’s.

Middle School didn’t go to festival this year, and solo and ensemble was cancelled. In a normal year, our Middle School Choir students would have also attended Festivals but unfortunately this has been a far from normal year and their events had to be canceled.Looking forward to the 2020/2021 school year and hope it will be one of healthy opportunities for our students to perform.

And most recently, Pretty Woman: The Musical which opened in 2018, showcases both choreography and directing talents, and Becoming Nancy in 2019.

Paw Paw Public Schools are PAC’d with Music ! Paw Paw Public School Seniors have Talentaward Winning Programs & dedicated staff that lead students to future careers and professional success
director gronda’s P.R.I.d.e. is aliveWOW! What an amazing event for the Paw Paw P.R.I.D.E. Band Program at District Band Festival In March!!! The bands did a fantastic job hosting and performing.
The 8th Grade Band, HS Concert Band , and HS Honors Band all had spectacular performances with each group earning Division 1, superior, rating....straight 1s across the board for everyone! This is the highest rating bands can receive. And this is the first time all 3 bands have accomplished this feat on the day.
I am extremely PROUD of how hard the students worked preparing. And my heart is overflowing with joy at how musical and mature all 3 bands performed.
All the bands received outstanding comments/feedback from the judges.
The band students and parents did an outstanding job hosting the festival. THANK YOU to all who helped today!!!
A huge thank you to all the parents, family members, students, administration, staff, and community members for coming out and supporting us.
The P.R.I.D.E. is alive.
It was a great festival event for members of the Paw Paw P.R.I.D.E. Bands at their MSBOA District Solo & Ensemble Festival performances.
Students earning Division 2 (excellent) ratings: Charlee Bowers, clarinet solo, Michael Hartman, trumpet solo, Isabella Hameed, piano solo, Jessica Allen & Addison Linder, alto/baritone saxophone duet, Charles Bowers, Morgan Taylor, Madison VanDoren, clarinet trio
Students earning Division 1 (superior) ratings: Nate Hostetler, trumpet solo, Alex Leonard, tuba solo, Josh VanRoekel, trumpet solo, Keith Henderson, baritone sax solo, Jessica Allen, alto sax solo, Rebecca Stratton & Kylie Cox, clarinet duet, Keith Henderson & Addison Linder, baritone sax duet, Alex Leonard, Joey Herr, Shane Linder, tuba/trombone/bassoon trio.
Students earning a Division 1 rating have qualified for State Solo & Ensemble which held been planned for March 14 at Portage Northern High School. Unfortunately, it had to be canceled like many school events.
All of the adjudicators gave great comments about the students musical skills and talent. They also complimented them on their professional dress and manners. I am so proud of how hard these students have worked preparing for Solo & Ensemble. Most of them were also involved in the school Seussical the Musical, thus spending many extra hours at school rehearsing.
Band Director Amy Gronda
Well this certainly wasn’t a normal year for the Paw Paw Performance Senior students. The year started with deadly mosquitoes interrupting the Fall Marching Band season and ended early due to the COVID -19 Pandemic which cut the Choir and Theatre seasons short.
Sadly, several of the Seniors’ “Lasts” has to be canceled - The Student-Directed One Acts Festival, Choir & Band Spring Concerts and State-Level Festivals.
They didn’t get to say or receive their special final goodbyes or enjoy their final Wrap Parties .
These students are soon heading into their next chapter and several will continue in the performing arts in college.
Although it didn’t end like it has for past classes, the 2020 Class will certainly have very unique memories on which to look back. Congratulations to them all!

GoblesMemorial Day Parade & Veterans Service
have been CANCELED
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns for the well-being of the Veterans, parade participants and spectators, the Gobles City
Commission has made the difficult decision to cancel the Memorial Day Parade and Veterans Ceremony scheduled for May 25, 2020.
Everyone is encouraged to stay safe, and remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
