• Simplified Estimation Methods

• Base year reporting and verification options

2/18/2020|28

Customizable Reporting Boundary

• Transitional reporting replaced by customized inventory options

• Definition of relevant emissions• Scope 1• Scope 2 • Direct and indirect CO2 emissions

from the combustion of biomass• Transparent reporting boundaries

2/18/2020|29

More Flexible Reporting Boundaries

• Fiscal year reporting

• Equity share only reporting

• Streamlined worldwide reporting and verification

2/18/2020|30

Simplified Estimation Methods

• SEMs: Conservative, simplified estimation methods

• Update: Members may estimate up to 10% of total Scope 1, Scope 2 and direct & indirect biogenic emissions

2/18/2020|31

New Base Year Reporting & Verification Options• Base year reporting options

• Single year• Average of several consecutive years• Rolling base year

• Streamlined verification process for base year adjustments or inventory corrections

2/18/2020|32

The University of California improves the lives of people in California and around the world through world-class educational opportunities, groundbreaking research, top-rated health care and agricultural expertise.

The University of California

38

UC campuses have been reporting to TCR since at least as far back as 2009

UC’s Sustainability Policy ties directly to TCR methodology for measuring GHG footprint

UCOP and all 10 campuses report separately as part of our system-wide membership

UC Office of the President has been reporting annual GHG emissions to TCR and undergoing third-party verification since 2013

MissionUniversity of California’s buildings and fleets will become net carbon neutral by 2025.

VisionThe University of California is developing scalable solutions to build the low-carbon future our research has proven to be imperative.

UC Carbon Neutrality

PolicyUC’s Sustainability Policy includes sections on Clean Energy (Energy Efficiency, On-campus Renewable Electricity, Off-campus Clean Electricity, and On-campus Combustion), Green Building and Transportation

UC’s Carbon Neutrality Strategies

= Energy efficiency + conservation= On-site renewable energy

= Utility-scale clean electricity= Biomethane

= Cap and trade compliance offsets= Off-campus carbon reduction actions

Electric Power Sector Reporting• In 2014, UC became a Registered Electric

Service Provider in California• Goals included price transparency, cost

causation, and ability to enter long-term agreements for Renewable Power

Carbon Intensity of UC-Supplied Electricity

• Allows us to self-supply a significant portion electricity consumed across the system

• Campus emissions reduced using utility-specific emissions factor in CRIS

• Target is 0 lbs CO2/MWh for 2019 and beyond
