College Board – SAT, PSAT, and AP Courses
The College Board is a mission-driven not-for-profit organization that connects students
to college success and opportunity.
Founded in 1900, the College Board was created to expand access to higher
education. Today, the membership association is made up of over 6,000 of the world’s
leading educational institutions and is dedicated to promoting excellence and equity in
education.
Each year, the College Board helps more than seven million students prepare for a
successful transition to college through programs and services in college readiness
and college success — including the SAT and the Advanced Placement Program. The
organization also serves the education community through research and advocacy on
behalf of students, educators and schools.
https://www.collegeboard.org/about
COLLEGE BOARD
SAT, PSAT, and Advanced Placement Courses SAT - The SAT is a globally recognized college admission test that lets you show
colleges what you know and how well you can apply that knowledge. It tests your
knowledge of reading, writing and math — subjects that are taught every day in high
school classrooms.
PSAT - The PSAT/NMSQT (or National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a
preliminary version of the SAT. Not only does the PSAT help prepare students to take
the SAT or ACT, a great score on the PSAT can also open the door to National Merit
Scholarships and other awards.
AP – The College Board offers more than 30 AP or Advanced Placement courses
across multiple subject areas. Each course is developed by a committee of higher
education faculty and expert AP teachers who ensure that the course reflects college-
and university-level expectations. The committees define the scope and goals of the
AP course, articulating what students should know and be able to do upon completing
the course.

AP Exam Score Recommendation College Course Grade Equivalent
5 Extremely well qualified A+ or A
4 Very well qualified A-, B+ or B
3 Qualified B-, C+ or C

1 No recommendation
Setting AP Scores - Definitions of the knowledge and skills required to earn scores of 1,
2, 3, 4 and 5 on an AP Exam are derived from standard settings and college
comparability studies. These processes ensure that AP Exam outcomes align with
college faculty expectations. Committees of college faculty who teach the comparable
college course develop detailed descriptions of the performance required to earn each
score — these are called achievement-level descriptors (ALDs).

AP EXAM SCORES = COLLEGE CREDIT
AP Exams
Advanced Placement (AP) tests are offered to high school students through the College
Board. Starting with exams taken in May 2011, Indiana law requires all two and four-
year Indiana public colleges and universities to award college credit that counts toward
a degree for scores of 3 or higher.
• Math & Science exams have traditionally been paid for by the Indiana Dept. of
Education
• Humanities/Liberal Arts exams cost $94.00 per test in 2015
• Registration in March
• Exams May 2-13, 2016
• Scores reported in early July 2016
• Option to remove test scores from official high school transcript (request
through CPHS Guidance Office)

AP CAPSTONE
AP Capstone was developed in response to feedback from higher education.
The two-course AP Capstone sequence, with their associated performance
tasks, assessments, and application of research methodology, complement
the rigor of AP courses and exams by equipping students with the power to
analyze and evaluate information with accuracy and precision in order to craft
and communicate evidence-based arguments.
• Analyze topics through multiple lenses to construct meaning or gain
understanding
• Plan and conduct a study or investigation
• Propose solutions to real-world problems
• Plan and produce communication in various forms
• Collaborate to solve a problem
• Integrate, synthesize, and make cross-curricular connections

DUAL CREDIT
Courses offered for dual credit stem from agreements between high
schools, universities and community colleges whereby a high school
junior or senior enrolls in a college course and simultaneously earns
college credit and high school credit for the course.
• Fall 2007 – CPHS started to develop agreements with PUC & IUN
• 2015-16 – Articulation agreements with PUC, IUN, IU-Bloomington,
IUPUI, Ivy Tech, and Vincennes
• 50+ Courses
• Primarily for juniors and seniors that exhibit college readiness
levels on PSAT, ACT Aspire, and/or grade point average
CORE TRANSFER LIBRARY
Indiana has developed the Core Transfer Library (CTL) to assist
students in transferring credit to college and universities. The
CTL is a list of courses that will transfer among all Indiana public
college and university campuses (by law), assuming adequate
grades. All Core Transfer Library courses will meet the general
education or free elective requirements of undergraduate degree
programs, and a significant majority of CTL courses will also
count as one-on-one equivalents to courses taught at your new
campus.
