EXHIBITORS PLEASE NOTE; STEM COUNT is determined at the point of emergence of the stems from the top of the
Society’s containers, where the judge can see them, so be VERY careful when staging mul-
ti-headed stems (where the number of stems is specified),. Make sure the point where the
lowest side shoot joins the main stem is above the top of the container. Also please re-
move foliage that would get jammed among the stems where they emerge from the contain-
er as this makes the count difficult for the judges.
NOTE THE FOLLOWING DEFINITIONS - ALL CLASSES
Stem - A stem is defined as a Rose which carries a single bloom or single bud
Cut - A cut is stem that carries more than one bloom, and/or bud or buds.
Bud - A bud can show colour, but must not have any petals unfurled or separating from the
centre, when petal unfurled is counted as a bloom.
Distinct – means two different Cultivars; (differently named roses - e.g. Moonstone,
Tineke
Blend - A rose which has more than one colour on it’s petals. May include a rose with two
shades of the one colour. Any Rose listed in Modern Roses as ‘Blend’
NND - means Not Necessarily Distinct (Not necessarily different). Three Roses NND
could be two Moonstone and one City of Newcastle, or three Tineke.
It allows for the mixing of roses with different names or roses of the same name in the one
exhibit.
Single Rose - These Roses are roses having one row of up to 5 petals, but may have up
to 3 petals in a second row.
Bunch of Roses– A bunch of Roses is a number of Stems or Cuts exhibited in a container,
the height of which is greater than the width, viewed from the front, unless otherwise speci-
fied in the Show Schedule.
