Crafting Professional Presentations

• Keep font sizes, colors, and styles consistent

• Use (but don’t overuse) graphs, charts, and tables

• Don’t use too much text because the judges will just read the slides and not pay attention to what you have to say

• Use roadmaps and transitions

• Balance content and delivery

– Where you are

– Deadlines/urgency

– Time constraints

•Note: Sometimes judges are “from the future.” Adapt accordingly.

17

Do: Be a Team Player

• A team dominated by one or two members will not be

successful

• This means:

• Speak up (if you are quiet)

• Let others speak (if you are loud)

Don’t: Read From the Slides or Memorize

• You will have enough time to practice, so use it!

• Practice makes perfect, but…

• Trying to memorize a speech will not work

Don’t: Be Afraid to Have a “Lead” Presenter

• A polished presentation has an introduction and a

conclusion

• Consider having the same person “open” and “close”

the presentation
