GENERAL NOTES1. CONSTRUCTION FROM THESE DRAWINGS SHALL NOT

15. AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS REFERRED TO ON THESEDRAWINGS SHALL BE THE LATEST REVISIONS OF THENOMINATED STANDARD.

FOUNDATIONS1. FOUNDATION MATERIAL SHALL BE INSPECTED AND

APPROVED FOR THE NOMINATED SITE CLASSIFICATIONAND ALLOWABLE BEARING CAPACITY BY AGEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER BEFORE PLACING FOOTINGREINFORCEMENT.

2. ALL FOUNDATIONS MUST BE STABLE AND UNIFORMTHROUGHOUT.

3. REFER SLAB DESIGN CRITERIA FOR CLASSIFICATION OFSITE.

CONCRETE

1. ALL WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH AS3600 AND ANY OTHER RELEVANT AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS UNLESSVARIED BY THE ENGINEER.

2. ALL CONCRETE SHALL BE PROPERLY CURED. CURING SHALL COMMENCEWITHIN 2 HOURS OF POURING AND SHALL CONTINUE FOR A MINIMUM OF7 DAYS, FOLLOWED BY A GRADUAL DRYING OUT. CURING SHALL BE BYCONTINUOUS SATURATION WITH POTABLE WATER OR BY USE OF ANAPPROVED PROPRIETARY CURING COMPOUND COMPLYING WITH AS3799, APPLIED UNIFORMLY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURERSINSTRUCTIONS. THE COMPATIBILITY OF CURING COMPOUNDS WITHPROPOSED APPLIED FINISHES SHALL BE VERIFIED PRIOR TO APPLICATION.FORMED SURFACES EXPOSED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF CASTING SHALL BESPRAYED WITH AN APPROPRIATE CURING AGENT IMMEDIATELY UPONEXPOSURE.

3. HOLES, PENETRATIONS, CHASES AND CONSTRUCTION JOINTS, OTHERTHAN THOSE SHOWN ON THE STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS SHALL NOT BEMADE IN CONCRETE MEMBERS WITHOUT THE PRIOR APPROVAL OF THEENGINEER.

4. CONSTRUCTION JOINTS SHALL BE PROPERLY FORMED WHERE VERTICAL.THE FIRST POUR SHALL BE THOROUGHLY SCABBLED AND CLEANED OF ALLPOORLY COMPACTED MATERIAL AND LAITANCE, THOROUGHLY SOAKEDAND PAINTED WITH A 2:1 SAND CEMENT SLURRY IMMEDIATELY BEFOREPLACING THE SECOND POUR. THOROUGHLY COMPACT THE SECONDPOUR AGAINST THE FIRST POUR.

5. CONDUITS, PIPES AND THE LIKE SHALL BE PLACED WITHIN THE MIDDLETHIRD OF THE SLAB DEPTH AND AT A MINIMUM SPACING OF NOT LESSTHAN 3 DIAMETERS. CONDUITS AND PIPES SHALL NOT BE PLACED WITHINTHE CONCRETE COVER OUTLINED BELOW.

6. THE FINISHED CONCRETE SHALL BE FULLY MECHANICALLY VIBRATED TOACHIEVE FULL COMPACTION, COMPLETELY FILLING FORMWORK,THOROUGHLY EMBEDDING THE REINFORCEMENT AND FREE OF STONEPOCKETS. ALL CONCRETE, INCLUDING SLABS ON GROUND ANDFOOTINGS, SHALL BE FULLY VIBRATED USING A HIGH FREQUENCYMECHANICAL VIBRATOR.

7. SPECIFICATION OF CONCRETE (U.N.O):

8. WHERE A VAPOUR BARRIER IS SPECIFIED BENEATH SLABS ON GROUNDPROVIDE A 0.2mm BRANDED POLYTHENE MEMBRANE THROUGHOUT. LAPSHEETS 300mm AND SEAL WITH A 50mm WIDE PRESSURE SENSITIVEWATERPROOF TAPE.

9. BEFORE THE COMMENCEMENT OF CONCRETING THE BUILDER SHALLENSURE THE CONCRETE OR IS FULLY AWARE OF ANY AREAS OFFORMWORK THAT HAVE BEEN PRE-CAMBERED OR PRE-SET. EXTREMECARE MUST BE TAKEN TO ENSURE THE SPECIFIED DEPTHS OF BEAMS ANDSLABS ARE ACHIEVED IN AREAS OF PRE-SET OR PRE-CAMBEREDFORMWORK. THIS CANNOT BE ACHIEVED BY LEVELING THE CONCRETESURFACE INTO THE NOMINAL FINISHED CONCRETE LEVEL.

10. WHERE CONCRETE SLABS BEAR ON MASONRY, INCLUDING COREDBRICKS, THE BEARING SURFACE OF THE MASONRY SHALL BE RENDEREDWITH 1:3 CEMENT SAND MORTAR TO GIVE A LEVEL SURFACE AND AMETAL SLIP JOINT LAID PROTECTED BY 0.2mm POLYTHENE SHEET TAPED TOFORMWORK BEFORE PLACING CONCRETE. SPECIAL DETAILS SHALL APPLYFOR ROOF SLABS OR SIMILARLY EXPOSED SLABS.

11. NON-LOAD BEARING MASONRY SHALL BE SEPARATED FROM THE SOFFITOF SLABS AND BEAMS BY 12mm CANITE OR OTHER MEANS APPROVED BYTHE ENGINEER.

12. CONSTRUCTION AND SUPPORT PROPPING SHALL BE ADDED, OR LEFT INPLACE, TO AVOID OVERSTRESSING THE STRUCTURE DUE TOCONSTRUCTION LOADS. C13 NO MASONRY OR PARTITION WALLS SHALLBE CONSTRUCTED ON SUSPENDED LEVELS UNTIL 7 DAYS AFTER PROPPINGHAS BEEN REMOVED AND THE SLAB PRE-LOADED WITH THE BRICKS ORMATERIALS TO BE USED IN THE WALL.

STRUCTURAL BLOCKWORK/BRICKWORK1. ALL WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH A.S. 3700 EXCEPT WHERE VARIED BY THE

CONTRACT DOCUMENTS2. ALL LOAD BEARING BRICKS SHALL BE LAID FROGS UP EXCEPT FOR THE TOP COURSE, WHICH SHALL BE LAID

FROGS DOWN. WHEN SUPPORTING A CONCRETE SLAB OR BEAM, BRICKWORK SHALL HAVE A LAYER OFMORTAR PLACED ON THE TOP AND TROWELLED SMOOTH, WITH 2 SHEETS OF 'ALCOR' OR EQUIVALENT. U.N.O.THE TOP 2 COURSES OF BRICKS SHALL BE LAID WITH REINFORCEMENT IN THE JOINTS.

3. BRICK COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH F'UC SHALL BE 24MPA MIN. U.N.O.4. NO BRICKWORK WHICH IS SUPPORTED BY THE SLAB SHALL BE ERECTED UNTIL THE FORMWORK HAS BEEN

REMOVED.5. WHEREVER BRICK WALLS ARE BUILT OFF CONCRETE SLABS, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE EXTERNAL OUTER SKIN

OF CAVITY WALLS, THEY SHALL BE LAID ON A LIGHT GAUGE BUILDING PAPER TO PERMIT FREE MOVEMENT OFTHE SLAB IN RELATION TO THE BRICKWORK.

6. WHERE WALLS ARE NON-LOAD BEARING AT EITHER HORIZONTAL OR VERTICAL FACES THEY SHOULD BESEPARATED FROM THE CONCRETE BY 12MM THICK POLYSTYRENE U.N.O.

7. PROVIDE WALL TIES AT SLAB LEVEL TO PROVIDE LATERAL SUPPORT TO MASONRY VENEER. SPACE TIES AT 400MMHORIZONTALLY - 1 ROW ONLY. TIES SHALL BE CAST INTO SLAB OR SECURELY SHOT FIXED. THE ENGINEER SHALL BEADVISED OF THE TYPE AND MODEL OF TIE TO BE USED AS WELL AS THE METHOD OF FIXING TO THE SLAB.

8. BLOCK COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH F'UC SHALL BE 15 MPA MIN. U.N.O BLOCK GRADE SHOULD BE CLEARLYINDICATED ON THE DELIVERY DOCKET.

9. MORTAR SHALL CONSIST OF 1 PART CEMENT, 1 PART LIME AND 6 PARTS SAND. MORTAR SHALL COMPLY WITHA.S. 3700.

10. REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE PLACED AND SECURELY HELD IN THE LOCATIONS INDICATED. RODS SHALL BE TIEDTO STARTER BARS IN CLEANOUT BLOCKS. COVER TO VERTICAL REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE 50MM FROM THEOUTSIDE OF THE BLOCK WHERE DRAWN ADJACENT TO BLOCK FACE.

11. MORTAR PROTRUDING INTO CORE HOLES SHALL BE REMOVED BY THE BLOCK LAYER AFTER EACH COURSE ISLAID. EVERY CORE FILLED WITH GROUT SHALL HAVE A CLEANOUT BLOCK IN THE BOTTOM COURSE.

12. PROVIDE VERTICAL CONTROL JOINTS AT 8 METRES MAXIMUM CENTRES, AND 4 METRES MAXIMUM FROMCORNERS IN MASONRY WALLS, AND BETWEEN NEW & EXISTING BRICKWORK.

13. ALL MASONRY WALLS SUPPORTING OR SUPPORTED BY CONCRETE FLOORS SHALL BE PROVIDED WITHVERTICAL JOINTS TO MATCH ANY CONTROL JOINTS IN THE CONCRETE.
