…ing Spellings• Verbs that have a short vowel followed

by a consonant, double then add –ing– swim swimming

• Verbs that have a long vowel or a long vowel followed by a consonant, just add –ing – go going– play playing

• Verbs that have a long vowel, consonant and silent e, drop the e and add –ing – take taking
