“St. Peter is portrayed as being simply one of the four apostles portrayed, [there is] no indication of Peter being supreme or chief

of the Apostles.”

Paul McCain

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus

our Lord.

2 Peter 1:2

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and Godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has

given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may

participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil

desires.

2 Peter 1:3-4

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to

goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control,

perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly

kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in

increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:5-8

But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and

election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fail, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom

of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:9-11

1. Be productive2. Be unproductive

Two Choices

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to

goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control,

perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly

kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

2 Peter 1:5-7

Regeneration……is when your desires are

alignedwith God’s desires for you.

RevelationWhat God Did

ResponseWhat We Do

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to

goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control,

perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly

kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love … But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past

sins.

2 Peter 1:5-7, 9

Godliness does not stem from discipline, but from a revelation that we have been

forgiven from sin.

The Gospel

RevelationWhat God Did

ResponseWhat We Do

ResultsWhat God Gives

“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus

Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 2:38

1. Grants the forgiveness of sins2. Sends the Holy Spirit to regenerate

you inside

God Does…

For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you

from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past

sins.

2 Peter 1:8-9

Regeneration……is necessary to maximize

yourlife and efforts on earth.

The Christian faith is not merely a set of doctrines to be accepted. It is a power to

be experienced.

John Piper

I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the

heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my

statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

Ezekial 36:26-27

1. You have to be baptized?2. You have to take communion?3. You have to have asked Jesus into

your heart?4. You have to go to church?5. You have to live a good life?6. You have to give money to the

church?

To Be a Christian…

People draw near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their

hearts are far from me and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men.

Isaiah 29:13

He is a Jew who is one inwardly, and real circumcision is a matter of the heart,

spiritual and not literal.

Romans 2:29

For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you

from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:8

Regeneration……is an ongoing process.

If I wake up tomorrow and I amthe same as I am today, I am a backslider.

Smith Wigglesworth

Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will

never fail, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our

Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:10-11

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to

goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control,

perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly

kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

2 Peter 1:5-6

Regeneration……requires less law, more

Spirit.

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and Godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own

glory and goodness.

2 Peter 1:3

Three Questions1. Has my heart been regenerated?2. Am I pursuing productivity on my own?3. Am I pursuing knowledge of Jesus?
