Born on 30th October, in Jamshedpur, Bihar, Architect Rita Mody Joshi followed herchildhood dreams to become an Architect and designed her Father’s Farm House inChikmagalur, Karnataka when she was only 8! After completing her basic schoolingat Sacred Heart Convent, Jamshedpur and Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, RitaMody studied catering with Shanta Phillip at Food Craft Institute Ahmedabad. Shegraduated in the field of Architecture from CEPT (Center for EnvironmentalPlanning and Technology), Ahmedabad in 1985.

She married Fashion Co-ordinator ‘Anuj Joshi’ in March 1987 and moved to Goa. InGoa, Architect Rita started as a visiting faculty at the Goa College of Architecture.She started her own Architectural practice in December’94.

A Few Lines about Arch. Rita Mody Joshi…

Since 1985, she has being designing residences, factories and hotels withoptimum concern for the environment. She is part of a team producing amovie called Soul Curry. A perfectionist – she is a tough-task-master, buthas a generous heart-always willing to lend a helping hand. She does a lotof social work and is presently working on an old people’s home which willalso provide refuge to orphans. She also intends to set up a Gurukul foryoung aspiring Architects special learning from Master Architects ratherthan book knowledge, which isn’t applicable in today’s World ofConstruction.

Arch. Rita Mody Joshi’s Food Craft Institute course helps her in designingKitchens and Restaurant in detail ! To the extent that Rita, along with herhusband; set up two happening Restaurants – named “Mandarin” and“Valerios” (both in Goa). After the tragic demise of her husband, ArchitectRita focused on her Architectural profession. She is passionate aboutdesigning hotels and restaurants and has been successful in executing thesame all over India

Over a period of time, I realized that my house was aging and needed avisual refresh and some minor renovations. But I was unable to figure outhow to go about the whole thing. I wanted to make some changes to thefront façade of my house. Prima facie, it was relatively a small job. All I hadto do was consult an architect. She doesn’t just build houses, she builds relationships as well. Ask any of her Client’s and they’ll tell you the same.As an Architect, Rita has a repertoire of being one of the best. She is a visionary, an artist and backed with the highest technical knowledge and understanding of how structures work. I recall having an argument with her on a certain aspect of my construction. She just refused to budge from her standpoint, as she said she just didn’t see it that way. Now I thank her for her stand as it wouldn’t have worked any other way.
