Parent/guardian consent required to obtain an instruction permit.

Must be enrolled in an approved driver education course, and must pass vision and written exams.

Nighttime Driving Restriction Sunday through Thursday: 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday: 11 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Can drive with parent or adult age 21 or older with a valid driver’s license

Must not acquire any driving convictions during the nine-month permit phase.

All occupants under age 19 must wear safety belts. If passenger is under age 16, driver receives

the ticket

Cell phone use is prohibited for all driver’s under age 19 expect in an emergency: To contact a law enforcement agency To contact a health care provider To contact an emergency services agency

Permit must be held for a minimum of nine months Can get license after 9 months and 1 day

Permit is valid for up to 2 years Anyone caught driving without permit

cannot get driver’s license until age 18

Must drive a minimum of 50 hours (10 hours must be at night) before receiving licensing

Parent/guardian must accompany teen to provide written consent to obtain license

Must complete state-approved driver education course

Same nighttime driving restriction as permit phase

Passenger limitations: 1st year of having license or until driver turns 18 One person under the age of 20 Unless passengers are siblings, step-siblings,

children, or step-children Driver and passengers will be ticketed for

violation

Cell phone rule is the same as permit phase

Traffic violations Any violation will generate letter to parents 2 moving violations in 24 months = 1 month

suspension Any moving violation within 1st year = 6

month extension of passenger limiations

Cell phone use still prohibited for drivers under age 19
