9th Annual

www.holychild.org

We would like to extend a warm welcome to these talented middle school players, as well as their coaches, friends, and family for our Ninth Annual CYO Girls Invitational Tournament. We are thrilled to host this tournament again this year and proud to open our doors to the community. We are all excited for a weekend of healthy competition, friendship, and fun.

Our tournament would not be possible without the support of our volunteers, the Holy Child Varsity and JV basketball teams and their coaches, and the generosity of our sponsors. We would like to thank everyone who worked so hard behind the scenes to make this event a reality, especially Tom Williams (father of Tess '11 and Eileen '13).

Before the competitors take the court, let us take a moment to reflect about the weekend ahead.

Welcome to Holy Child!

Player PrayerGod, let me play well but fairly. Let competition make me strong but never hostile. Forbid me to rejoice in the adversity of others. See me not when I am cheered, but when I bend to help my opponent up. If I know victory, allow me to be happy; if I am denied, keep me from envy. Remind me that sports are just games. Help me to learn something that matters once the game is over. And if through athletics I set an example, let it be a good one.*

Have a great tournament!

Blessings,Dr. Shannon GomezHead of School

Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella is the new Broadway adaptation of the classic musical. This contemporary take on the classic tale features Rodgers & Hammerstein's most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It's

Possible” and “Ten Minutes Ago,” alongside a hilarious and romantic libretto by Tony Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane as well as some new characters, and surprising twists.

Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA was twice re-made, first in 1965 for Lesley Ann Warren and then again in 1997 featuring Brandy and Whitney Houston. The original Broadway pro-

duction opened in 2013 and starred Laura Osnes, Santino Fontana, Victoria Clark and Harriet Harris.

Meet Jamie Ready Holy Child Basketball Coach

Holy Child is proud of our basketball program, led by Varsity Coach Jamie Ready. She is assisted on the Varsity bench by brothers JD Ricca and Keith Ricca. The Junior Varsity team is coached by alumna/former Holy Child player Jillian Bastow, with alumna/former Holy Child player Kristin Woo.

They are happy to talk about our basketball program and your daughter’s possible future as a Holy Child Tiger!

Coach Ready, now in her seventh year, has built a winning program here at Holy Child, with Varsity posting better than .750 seasons over the last several years, a highly competitive JV team, and a Middle School squad that has been equally dominant in interscholastic competition. Last year’s Varsity squad went 21-5 as Ready surpassed the 100 win plateau.

Prior to coming to Holy Child, Ready was Assistant Varsity coach at Langley High School. The local star, who hails from St. Jane de Chantal and St. Jude elementary schools, was the first female at St. John’s College High School to reach the 1,000-point mark, finishing with 1,313 points overall from four years on varsity. Her numerous high school awards, from two First Team WCAC nods and two All-Met Honorable Mentions, led to an equally successful college career at Marymount University in Arlington. As starter and team captain for three years, she achieved rankings in numerous record categories (including 4th in blocked shots, and 12th in both steals and assists).

In 2012, she inspired her team even more by garnering the first-ever spot for a female in the St. John’s College High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

MIDDLE SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIESAt Holy Child, you can begin your interscholastic basketball career as early as sixth grade, playing against a wide range of independent schools. The program focuses on skills development, and practice is integrated into the school day to allow students to remain on CYO and other outside teams.

This year’s Varsity team has come out of the gate strong,

and bolstered their skills and their team dynamic by

heading to Phoenix, Arizona for their first appearance in

the Cactus Jam Tournament. They won the tournament

championship and enjoyed a fantastic team bonding ex-

perience. The photo above is the team after a meal at the

When these hopeful Middle Schoolers stepped on the Holy Child court, vying for the championship as you are this weekend, little did they know that more than three-quarters of them would be playing on the Tigers Varsity or JV teams in short order.

We celebrate the 17 out of 23 Holy Child current high school basketball players who debuted at this tournament, proudly representing their parish teams.
